Richard Patterson (CPD Science) gives a short presentation of the IPC Irwin Van Der Graaf Machine. This very popular item is used in secondary schools to show how larger quantities of electrical charge can be transferred to the large steel dome using friction/induction. The machine can be operated by hand which confirms that the charge generated is independent of mains electricity.
